Maroon 5 – Girls Like You (Volume 2): Here is all that’s Different

Maroon5 and Cardi B in collaboration with their record Label, Interscope Records have hit the studio once again to relive the success of their Hit Song GLY (Girls Like You). The song crossed over a billion YouTube views in under 4 months and since its release in May 2018, has remained one of the most played songs globally. Now the initial version of the song (GLY Volume 1) was a bit formal and stiff, not to mention that it had scenes where Adam Levine failed to appear completely.

To many, Girls like you was perfect in every essence, both the video and Audio. However, yesterday (October 16th, 2018), the band released a Volume 2 of the song.  For close observers like myself, you will definitely notice some major alterations in the song’s video. Actually, this Volume was just about the video, since the crew barely altered the audio. GLY2 was directed by the band’s director David Dobkin.

What’s Different in Girls like You Volume 2?

So what exactly did Maroon 5 do differently this time? Let’s start with the basics.

  • Characters:

Just like the first version of the video, this second debut features reputable female personalities to match the theme “Girls like you”. Among the casted women in GLY volume 2 are Cardi B, Ellen DeGeneres from the Ellen Show, Camila Cabello, Mary J. Blige, Aly Raisman, Rita Ora, Actor Gal Gadot, Jennifer Lopez,  Tiffany Haddish, Phoebe Robinson and Millie Bobby Brown among others. Of course, the full Maroon 5 band is present. Adam Levine’s wife Behati Prinsloo is also featured. However, you will notice that this time she’s not holding their daughter Dusty Rose Levine. Sarah Silverman is also missing from the entire video although there’s a part in the song’s bridge where we see her back. That was definitely intentional.

    Flow:

The Video begins just like in the initial release, a maroon 5 guy plucking a guitar. Adam follows chanting the song as Camilla Cabello initiates the female appearances as she does her slow dance. Everything pretty much goes the same as in the first video of the song. Nonetheless, the video’s ending is edited majorly. First, you will notice that the final shot is not that of Adam, Behati and Dusty. Instead, the director chose to place random figures in this last part. These include Ellen, Gadot, Millie, Lilly Singh and Tiffany.

  • Overview:

Generally, the video is very casual this time. You might be wondering who is the girl in the red jacket that hops onto Adam in the video. Well, that’s Tiffany Haddish. She was actually very casual in this second version of the video. Behati was also featured in many parts of the video including a scene where she throws a hilarious kick in the air. I personally, like Ellen’s moves in the visuals. She certainly has that heartwarming personality, no wonder we are all huge fans of her. The way she dances in the last part of the video, those were some serious moves for a 60-year-old woman.

Final words: Girls Like you Volume 1 Vs Volume 2, which one was better?

From my own point of view, I think this second version of the video was better. At least this time everybody looks relaxed in this second video. Let me know what you think on Social channels,  (FB, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Instagram).
